Jason Perry, ALC

Jason Perry is originally from Birmingham, AL, by way of Hoover, AL. He currently serves as the Student Diversity Recruitment and Retention Coordinator at the University of Montevallo where he coordinates the Minorities Achieving Dreams of Excellence (M.A.D.E.) Program, a program that assists minority students in overcoming the social, emotional, academic, and professional challenges that come with college. Additionally, he serves several minority groups on campus in an effort to develop the future minority leaders of the world, advocate for diversity and inclusivity, social justice, and mental health, while providing a platform for students to lead, to be heard, and to be valued.

Perry is a 2018 graduate of the University of Montevallo’s College of Business program where he obtained his BBA in Business Management and minor in Nonprofit Studies. As a first-generation student, he valued each learning and leadership opportunity available which would lead him to become a Falcon Scholar in Action at the Developing Alabama Youth (D.A.Y.) Program. Through the inspiring mentorship of several counselors during that experience, Jason decided to pursue his Master’s in Counseling at the University of Montevallo, with a concentration in School Counseling. During his time within the counseling program, he applied to be an Albert Schweitzer Fellow of Alabama, which is a program that partners graduate students with community agencies and organizations to develop a service project for underserved communities. Jason also partnered with the Birmingham Mayor’s Office Division of Youth Services to develop a mentorship group for young men to address social determinants of health.

Now, Perry serves as the coordinator for the Falcon Scholars program, and a council member for the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama, in hopes of providing future students those same experiences that he credits in shaping his path.  Jason graduated from the counseling program in August of 2020, and decided to obtain his Associate License in Counseling so that he could continue to expand upon the great work he’s been able to do at the University of Montevallo, in his community, while learning from, and with, a generation of inspiring counselors, like those at Yellow Bird Counseling.

Jason has a passion to not only start his journey as a counselor, but also to continue in his journey in developing pathways for access, awareness, and advocacy in the mental health field. Jason hopes that during his time at YBC, he can empower clients to be the hero in their own healing, growth, and restoration by providing the space, support, and tools for them to do so.
